We are proud and happy to see that we are once again nominated to The breeders of the year 2019 and The competition breeding farm of the year 2019. As we say thank you we want to use the opportunity to congratulate all the other breeders with their great results.
This young stallion is 3 years old, Dam is Álfhildur frá Syðri-Gegnishólum and sire is Meginn frá Ketilsstöðum. There he is having look at grandma Álfadís frá Selfossi and mother Álfhildur, it would be acceptable for us if he would try to be like them.
This was a good move, to get all the shoes in order, normally they lie in buckets and boxes on the floor making it difficult to reuse them.
Nice to be able to picture these two mares together, Grýla frá Stangarholti and her grand daughter Álfatrú frá Syðri-Gegnishólum. Álfatrú is a daughter of Álfadís frá Selfossi and Sveinn-Hervar frá Þúfu í Landeyjum. Grýla is 29 years old and Álfatrú is 2 years old and a funny mix of her grandmother and mother in confirmation and colour. She has a good and strong back and her temperament is curious and friendly. My friend Ellen was making a lot of funny sound and positions to make them pose, but mostly they looked surprised
Beautiful morning at Ketilsstaðir, the herd of mares and geldings keep close to the house, in background the part of a mountain named Ketilsstaðaaxlir.
Five beautiful black yearlings in the mountain in Ketilsstaðir, all mares, would have been good to bring the microchip reader. They all have excellent breeding lines, it's Álfadís and Stáli frá Kjarri, Álfhildur and Spaði frá Stuðlum, Aðaldís and Sveinn-Hervar frá Þúfu í Landeyjum, Vænting and Sveinn-Hervar frá Þúfu í Landeyjum and Álfastjarna and Aðall frá Nýjabæ.
Preparing the stables for the arrival of young horses to be tamed.
These are the days that give a lot, with cleaning and maintenance work. Now we are so lucky to have this artist, Josefina Morell, to assist with decorations at the stables.
We feel inspired and full of motivation and hopes for the future after the latest Júlio Borba clinic which was just finishing.
The beautiful mare is Yrsa frá Selfossi 6 years old, dam is Frigg frá Selfossi and sire is Álffinnur frá Syðri-Gegnishólum.
Last Monday we were visited by all the ministers of agriculture in the Nordic countries and their employees. We told them about our work, breeding, raising, training, presending the Icelandic horse and the effect that we believe that the Icelandic horse has on connections and cooperation within the nordic countries as in the world as well. Jelena Ohm presented the work of Horses of Iceland and we showed some horses in training to this group of interested and charming people.
Here are some pictures taken of Álfaklettur frá Syðri-Gegnishólum when he received 8,67 as a total score in his breeding evaluation the other day. 8,73 for confirmation including 9,0 for head, back and croup and hooves as well as 9,5 for propotions. He received 8,63 for riding abilities including 9,0 for tölt and spirit. Álfaklettur is 6 years old, dam is Álfadís frá Selfoss and sire is Stáli frá Kjarri. Rider is Bergur Jónsson.
This picture shows a future offspring of Katla frá Ketilsstöðum and Frami frá Ketilsstöðum. One can speculate of gender, color and other exciting possibilities.
Álfarinn in his new home, by Julia and Gregor Dorn, Gestüt von Treveris, Germany. We wish them happiness and luck.
This nice picture was taken in the end of July, just before Álfarinn left Iceland. Five sons of Álfadís frá Selfossi in training at that time.
From left, Ljósálfur sired by Lord frá Vatnsleysu, Álfarinn sired by Keilir frá Miðsitju, Álfaklettur sired by Stáli frá Kjarri, Svartálfur sired by Aríon frá Vestra-Fróðholti and Álfgrímur sired by Orri frá Þúfu.
We are home again from the World Championships in Berlin, I have been using some time to digest the experience. This was a great time with solidarity and friendship, the atmosphere around and in our team was outstanding. I'm proud and honored to be a part of the Icelandic team.
I chose to bring my dearest horse, Álfarinn and was able to create a "magic moment " with him in the preliminaries. That, in the end, was most important for me, we were able to show our capacity.
In the finals, when I think back, it wasn't really right from the beginning. Why, I can only speculate. In the end, what comes back to me again and again. Berlin is not a horse friendly place. The change is too big for horses coming straight from Iceland with too short time to adjust and I think it's based on chance which horses are able to handle it and which do not. This is not an excuse only my thoughts.
Sigurbjörn team leader, Sigurður, Anton, Arnar Bjarki, trainers, our Team board, team members, grooms, helpers and Erlendur our farrier, thank you so much you are all geniuses. I'm proud to be a part of the Icelandic team.
This picture was taken today in the end of our first training in the oval track in Berlin. Álfarinn, me and Bergur walking under the Brandenburger gate. What an great entrance/exit of the track.
Vilfríður Fannberg Sæþórsdóttir took this fun picture yesterday when we were delivering tack and all the other equipment that comes with the horses. This is about to happen, we who take care of the horses when they land abroad leave for Liege tomorrow and the horses will follow on sunday.
