Here are some pictures taken of our 1 year old horses at Ketilsstaðir, were they stay until late autumn. They have a huge area, mostly with mountain land, with a lot of trees and grass. They are moving around a lot, climbing up and running, walking down. The first picture is taken from the place I first saw them this day and another one when I got there and they had gone down the hill as the picture shows.

We got up early this morning with a long travel ahead of us, we are bringing Álfhildur to a stallion. I took these nice pictures from out of the living room window, they are of Álfhildur and her new born daughter, waking up, the little one drinking when her mother still lies....and then she got to sleep more.

Introducing Hengill frá Ketilsstöðum. Mother is Katla frá Ketilsstöðum and father is Álfarinn frá Syðri-Gegnishólum, he was born today on 1st of August.

This filly was born yesterday morning when these pictures were taken of her newly born. Mother is Álfhildur frá Syðri-Gegnishólum and father is the palomino "gæðingur" Spaði frá Stuðlum. Can it be that this foal has the color smokey black?
I got this enjoyable email from Páll Imsland who is our greatest expert in horse colors, I'm publishing it here since I find it very educating:
Hi Olil.
If you have been hoping for a smokey black foal from Álfhildur I'm afraid I have to disappoint you. I came by this evening and went with Elin to look at the foal.
It is apparent the the foal has ordinary black color. It can be seen mostly on the skin, edge of the eye, her nostrils and her genitals. The skin there is black which is a characteristic for black and most other colors but those that bare the palomino gene. Their skin is pink, hazel-red dun or chocolate brown and tend to be a bit dappled. On smokey black, the typical skincolor is chocolate brown or coffe brown(with a spot of cream). It does not show on this little princess.
The gray color in the eyes which Kristinn Hugason mentioned on facebook was a phiz washer, that is a so called foal grayness which is characteristic for eyes of newborn foals and usually lasts for few weeks but then fades during that time when the coloring in the eyes produce a normal eye color. Fetus development is hardly finished in the eyes and the brightness the foals get at birth affects the final outcome. Then the grayness disappears and the eyes get amber, faded black or black.
Give greetings to my kinsman in the east.
Regards, Páll

It is really good to see this great horse on the track again with his new owners.
Simbi frá Ketilsstöðum in fifth plase in tölt children class at the Icelandic tournament. Simbi was Berglind Rós, Berg's daughter, confirmation present, he has done great with her in competitions for many years. This winter Berglind wanted to sell him since she had decided to go to college. We were so lucky that Linda Helgadóttir and her family in Keflavík bought him but this time his rider was Glódís Líf Gunnarsdóttir. Simbi is 17 years old, son of Ljónslöpp frá Ketilsstöðum and sire is Kjarkur frá Egilsstaðabæ.

Elin Holst and Frami frá Ketilsstöðum just got the second place in 4 gate at the Icelandic Championship tournament. They were also on the sixth position in Tölt T1 after the preliminaries, a finale they decided not to ride.
For us these are great results, so soon after the difficult B class finals at Landsmót. Congratulations Elin and Frami, we are very proud of you two.

We are very proud of the great results of Álfasteinn frá Selfossi offsprings, in breeding as well as competitions. 10 years old he reached the limit to receive honorary 1. price for off springs but was not allowed to receive the reward since he had left the country. At Landsmót 2018 his son Hafsteinn frá Vakursstöðum won the A-class( icelandic 5-gate) and this is the second time his son wins A-class at Landsmót, in 2014 his son Spuni frá Vesturkoti also did.
Spuni was Icelandic Champion in 5-gate 2017 and he won the Sleipnir trophy at Landsmót 2018 as the winning honourary price stallion at Landsmót 2018.
Yesterday his son Toppur frá Auðsholtshjáleigu got Swedish Champion in Tölt T1.
There are 11 years since Álfasteinn left Iceland but his offsprings, born from 2004 to 2008 in Iceland, in 2008 only 13 offsprings were born and Hafsteinn was one of them. Nice to see how well his offsprings keep advertising and reminding of their father.

Last Monday we had an open day at Syðri-Gegnishólar, inviting all the guests at Landsmót and in general everybody who would like to come and meet us, the Gangmyllan team and our horses. See out facilities, have a talk and a bit to eat and drink. It was unbelievable how many took the time to come and visit us both guests from abroad and Icelanders.
Thank you so much for your visit, making this day fantastic. Here are some pictures from several photographers, where we try to show the great atmosphere during the whole day.

Preparing to compete in B-flokk (icelandic 4 gate) and afterwards photo shooting, since the sun was shining and it reminded about summer for all most 30 min, but the flies had a quick reponse, with this consequences.

About 24% of the breeding horses at Landsmót 2016 were descendants of Álfadís frá Selfossi, how many will be at this Landsmót would be interesting to have a look on one day.
