This is how our days are spent, one done and another ready, Framsýn og Rauðka frá Ketilsstöðum.
Þeim fannst gaman að komast út í góða veðrið í dag, hér sést myndskeið af Ljósálfi frá Syðri-Gegnishólum að monta sig.
Álfadís frá Selfossi with her daughter Álfaborg frá Syðri-Gegnishólum sired by Stáli frá Kjarri.
The weather was great yesterday bringing a great opportunity to ride the 4 years old stallions outside for the first time. Here are some pictures of Svartálfur frá Syðri-Gegnishólum, dam is Áfadís frá Selfossi and sire is Arion frá Eystra-Fróðholti. He thought it was very exiting and used every opportunity to look around.
It can be difficult to keep balance when shoed for the first time. A 3 year old daughter of Álfastjarna frá Syðri- Gegnishólum and Konsert frá Hofi.
We used the good weather to take care of the breeding mares. This mare needed a little help with the teeth, since she was starting to eat slow. Her name is Vænting frá Ketilsstöðum, 26 years old, she is pregnant with her 19th off spring. For fun, Vænting has 113 in Blup and 7 breeding evaluated off springs, 6 of those with 1.price. Almost all of the unpresended offsprings are good riding horses.
With this color you need to get used to being bathed. This is Spurning frá Syðri-Gegnishólum, dam is Mylla frá Selfossi and sire Álffinnur frá Syðri-Gegnishólum..
Ljósálfur frá Syðri-Gegnishólum 2018, 4 years old in his first breeding evaluation. Dam is Álfadís frá Selfossi and sire is Lord frá Vatnsleysu.
On Monday we will start shoeing the mares getting four years old this year, quite exiting. The one on the picture is from Gráhildur frá Selfossi og Álffinnur frá Syðri-Gegnishólum.
In a clean ridinghall with the floor as new.
This picture was taken last summer with Bergur holding Ör frá Ketilsstöðum who was never tamed due to injuries she got as a filly. Ör is bread from two honorary priced horses, Framkvæmd frá Ketilsstöðum and Kjarval frá Sauðárkróki. Ör is making a strong income as a breeding mare at our farm with all offsprings being good riding horses and some of them doing good in competitions. The stallion foal with her in the picture is sired by Álfgrímur frá Syðri- Gegnishólum and owned by Esther Kapinga. Last summer a very noticeable son of Ör and Sveinn-Hervar frá Þúfu í Landeyjum came through, Gígur frá Ketilsstöðum. He was breeding evaluated with a total score of 8,18, a 4 year old four gaiter who has now been sold to Ásta and Will Covert í USA.
This picture is taken during summer 2001 of Álfadís frá Selfossi with her first foal, Álfasteinn frá Selfossi. She was 5 years old then, time flies.
22 December 2018, a beautiful day.
When we sold Álfasteinn frá Selfossi we invested in two breeds with Orri frá Þúfu because that was what you had to do if you wanted to breed with him. I guess he is the most expensive stallion ever in Iceland and the best.
The result was Strokkur frá Syðri-Gegnishólum, dam Grýla frá Stangarholti and Álffinnur frá Syðri-Gegnishólum, dam Álfadís frá Selfossi.
Here are some pictures of Strokkur.
Great November weather like the picture shows.
These pictures were taken last summer when we had an open house after the Landsmót, inviting everybody to visit us. We brought some mares home for our guests to see. From the left is Katla frá Ketilsstöðum, Álfhildur frá Syðri-Gegnishólum, Framkvæmd frá Ketilsstöðum and Álfadís frá Selfossi with her new born daughter sired by Stáli frá Kjarri. Scratching is Katla and Álfhildur the best friends , Katla got upset when ÁLfhildur was not by her side in the stable.
